CP Skills Academy

Sponsored by

After a tremendously successful introductory season, CP Skills Academy return for the 2017-18 hockey season with the goal of providing an instructional experience that allows each player to improve their skills, knowledge of the game, and overall self-confidence as it relates to the game through a "positive" learning experience.

WHY SKILLS ACADEMY?

The Academy was formed in part to reach each Clifton Park player affording them the opportunity to participate in a guided instructional ice time that focuses on individual skill and understanding of the game of hockey promoting USA Hockey’s ADM.

HOW DOES THE USA’s HOCKEY ADM LOOK?

At the younger age levels, it looks like fun and constant motion in small spaces. The ADM encourages station-based practices, small-area games and cross-ice competition to deliver more repetitions, more puck touches and more skill development per hour of ice time. It provides the most efficient, most engaging development path for children, keeping them both in the game and on a path toward their full potential.

The Skills Academy coaches will work to accomplish this by focusing our efforts on providing the following:

  • An experienced, trained and dedicated staff of instructors who take an active interest in the development of the players
  • Individualized instruction, which pinpoints player's strengths and weaknesses and challenges them to their competitive level
  • Innovative drills and teaching techniques that offer students the very latest training methods used today
  • A progressive curriculum that focuses on the primary fundamental skill groups that are so vital to the ongoing development of all players, including the skating skills, puck skills, passing skills and shooting skills
  • A disciplined, yet fun learning environment that permits players the freedom to experiment with their talents and encourages students to push themselves beyond their current skill capacity
